On Friday 24 October, the Bek la Barre association, in partnership with Olivier Modely of the Pipangaille association and the SHLMR of the town of Le Port, organised socio-sports and nutrition workshops in the ZUP neighbourhood, for the benefit of its residents.
From 2.30pm to 4.30pm, around fifty children from the ZUP neighbourhoods, accompanied by volunteers from the Bek la Barre association - Ryan Mercher, Aurélien Numa and Nizam Nourdine - were invited to take part in culinary and socio-sports workshops led by Olivier Modely.
After introductions and an explanation of the rules of conduct by the chef, the participants were divided into two groups.
The first group took part in cooking activities (cutting fruit, weighing flour, learning the rules of hygiene, etc.), while the second group was introduced to street workout through a variety of workshops (push-up challenges, cooperative exercises, psychomotor work, etc.).
After an hour, the groups swapped places so that everyone could discover both activities.
Tasting
From 4.30pm to 5.30pm, everyone got together to prepare the dishes: fruit salads and pancakes. This was followed by a tasting session. A healthy, well-balanced snack, prepared by themselves. According to Olivier: «We made a tasty snack, but with fibre to slow down blood sugar levels and provide vitamins and minerals. They're captivated, they love it and they're already asking when the next event is going to be.
As a reward for their efforts, the children all left with smiles on their faces and a small game as a souvenir of this wonderful experience, which enabled them to acquire values, know-how and interpersonal skills: listening to and applying instructions, developing their creativity and nurturing their curiosity. All this in a friendly, warm and studious atmosphere, under the benevolent gaze of the parents, who were delighted and encouraging when it came to repeating this type of event.
