Bek La Barre assesses its future sporting talent!
The Bek La Barre coaching team is made up of Angelo MERION (3rd at the 2023 world championships), Guillaume LUCAS and Bryan HIREL (socio-athletic manager). They work on the ground in the priority neighbourhoods of Le Port, Saint-Louis and Saint-Pierre, offering street workout sessions to young people in these areas. Over time, these sessions enable young people to acquire physical skills through body-building exercises (strength, endurance, flexibility, etc.). But they also have a social dimension, promoting autonomy, initiative-taking and the inculcation of values (self-confidence, self-esteem, honesty, etc.) and principles (respect for others, surpassing oneself, etc.).
As a result, each year quantified monitoring according to different criteria. The advantages of this system are highlight the physical and moral development of each athlete.
The importance of monitoring young people from disadvantaged areas
During the first week of November, a briefing is held in each of the neighbourhoods where the association is active, in connection with the final evaluations. The stages of the briefing are as follows:
- Presentation of the assessment tests: Five physical tests and five technical tests.
- Demonstration of tests based on performance criteria
- Reminder of obligations: do not disturb the jury, always listen, stay focused...
Testimony of Gabriel (Street Workout practitioner in Rivière Saint-Louis):
«It's important to get to know each other, and Bryan helps us with that every day, so I'm getting stronger, and in a good atmosphere too».»
